The Niigata Saito Villa

Former summer residence of one of Niigata’s three large zaibatsu families, this structure on 1.1 acres was built in 1918 by Kijuro Saito IV, a wealthy merchant and member of the House of Peers. The large garden makes good use of its sandy terrain, and its comfortable contrast with the airy, modern Japanese-style dwelling speaks to the prosperity of old Niigata.
