Minato Inari Shrine
  • Famed in part for its rotating koma-inu ("guardian dog") statues. In years past, women would turn a statue toward the harbor and pray for bad weather, hoping to keep their seafaring men from sailing off. Later, many others started to come with different requests. Men tend to approach the dog on the right, while women pray to the statue at left after rotating it. These are the only rotating dog statues in the country.
