The flower of the tulip, the official flower of Niigata Prefecture and Niigata City, is unfortunately usually thrown out in order to raise the bulbs despite its beautiful blossoming. Through the activities of the "Niigata Flower Picture Project", those tulip flowers are collected to create walls of pictures.

A valorous battle between giant kites in the June sky. Giant kites are lifted from both banks of the Nakanokuchi River in an attempt to cut the lines of the other kites. For five days every June, approximately 300 kites are flown in this high-energy festival that attracts many fans. It is one of Niigata's most famous events.

The climax of the Niigata Festival is the fireworks display. 12,000 explosions, including the "starmine", dance in the summer night sky.
Hear the voices and applause of the crowd as the fireworks streak by. Marvel at the thrilling waterfall of fireworks droppingn from the Showa Ohashi Bridge. Tens of thousands of fans gather in a frenzy on the river banks.

Niigata City has 12 different beaches with rest facilities. The shallow beaches make for gentle waves.
Over 60,000 people gather to hear musical artists peform under the backdrop of the sunset over the Sea of Japan.

The "Shoku no Jin" was created to spread the word nationally about Niigata's bountiful and delicious cuisine. The major events take place between December and March. In February, enjoy a two-day event at four locations in the city where you can sample all kinds of food including hot pots, sushi, rice bowls, and more in a festival atmosphere.

200 Keyaki trees along Keyaki-dori south of Niigata Station are lit up by 260,000 lights, in an event that has become a tradition of the Niigata winter. The light-up begins with an opening ceremony on the first day, followed by many different events.
